BIOPSIES

Our Radiologists are dedicated and vigilante in diagnosing cancer at its earliest stage. This is why we offer our patients a variety of biopsy services to meet their specific needs.

Women’s Center for Radiology has achieved the American College of Radiology (ACR) accreditation for safety and quality in performing a variety of biopsy procedures. Biopsies are performed in our office, under local anesthesia, by our board certified diagnostic radiologists, specially trained in biopsy procedures. During your biopsy a small tissue sample is removed and sent to a specially trained pathologist for laboratory analysis. The laboratory issues a report containing the results, which is used by your doctor to determine the best course of treatment for you.

*Please check with the scheduler for preparation and instructions for any biopsy procedure as preparations may differ depending on your specific procedure.

Ultrasound Guided Biopsy

This procedure is performed under local anesthetic. It uses ultrasound guidance to carefully insert a vacuum assisted device into the area of interest where small samples are removed and sent for testing and analysis at a pathology laboratory for analysis. The report is then reviewed by the Radiologist and sent to your physician.

Stereotactic Biopsy

This procedure is performed under local anesthetic. It uses our advanced mammography system which skillfully assists in guidance to carefully insert a vacuum assisted device into the area of of concern. A small tissue sample is removed and sent to a pathology laboratory for testing and analysis. The report is reviewed by your radiologist and sent to your physician.

MRI Biopsy

This procedure is performed under local anesthetic. It uses MRI guidance to carefully insert a vacuum assisted device into the area of interest where small samples are removed and sent for testing and analysis at a pathology laboratory for analysis. The report is then reviewed by the Radiologist and sent to your physician.

Thyroid Fine Needle Aspirations (FNA)

Under ultrasound guidance a thin vacuum assisted device is inserted into an area of abnormal tissue where cells are extracted and sent for testing at a pathology laboratory for analysis.

Cyst Aspirations

A cyst aspiration consists of the draining of fluid or cells from a small membrane like sac in the breast or lymph node. This is done using a vacuum assisted device and the specimens are sometimes sent to an pathology laboratory for further testing.
